Urgent
Primary Care

Who we are

We are a team of over 135 salaried and sessional professionals including GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Community Psychiatric Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Office Admin that work together to provide excellent care to patients who require aid from their GP or the Emergency Departments across Gateshead.

Our Urgent Primary Care team, which are based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, treat patients with urgent primary care needs on the same day, creating capacity to support GP surgeries and reduce unnecessary Emergency Department attendances.

What we do

We provide primary care through our three site locations, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon Primary Care Centre and Trinity Square Health Centre.

We assist Gateshead GP practices with the Extended Access Service, this provides additional GP appointments during the day, in the evenings and at weekends. These appointments can be made with GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Community Psychiatric Nurses and Healthcare Assistants that are assisted by our Office Admin.

We support Gateshead with our Gat DOC service. This is a service that provides a GP throughout the evening whilst the GP practices are closed for any urgent needs.

We support the Urgent treatment Centre at Blaydon and the QE Hospital with A GP to assist with any minor injury that does not require attendance at A+E.
