What we have done

The CBC Directors, Chief Executive and Senior Managers have worked closely with the wider Gateshead Health and Social Care system to support service delivery and patient care during what has been a very challenging time for everyone.

CBC has provided the following support to Gateshead practices and patients following the start of the COVID pandemic in March 2020, whilst ensuring the continuity of day-to-day operations.

How did it work?

We set up two 'hot' sites for seeing and assessing patients with COVID-19 infection symptoms. Sites were located at Second Street Surgery and Blaydon Primary Care Centre.

We set up a ‘hot’ home visiting service in collaboration with the Community Rapid Response Team. This team visited patients at home who were too unwell or otherwise unable to come to one of the ‘hot’ sites.

We provided additional clinical support via our Urgent Primary Care service for practices struggling with staff illness and self-isolation among their staff.

Our data team supported the Local Authority Health Protection Team by providing comprehensive information on patient vaccinations and admissions. This helped them target resources to improve outcomes across Gateshead and assist those patients who are more difficult to reach.

We have managed the COVID vaccination programme for a large proportion of the Gateshead area. We administered around 100,000 vaccines since April 2021 and continue to support the vaccination programme with the Spring 2023 Booster Programme.

During the Winter of 2022 we provided a helpline which provided advice and guidance for patients and practices on both the COVID and Flu vaccination availability and eligibility.
