CBC Health Federation are pleased to have been chosen to run the new Persistent Physical Symptoms Service for patients in both Gateshead and Newcastle.

About 1 in 4 people who see a GP have physical symptoms that cannot be explained by tests. Sometimes they are known as medically unexplained symptoms or functional symptoms. Our service aims to help support these patients.

We are a specialist, primary care led service providing support to people aged 18 years and over who are experiencing persistent physical symptoms that are related to changes in the way the body functions. The kind of symptoms we might treat include, but are not limited to:

• limb weakness / paralysis

• movement disorders

​

• non-epileptic seizures

​

• visual, speech or swallowing symptoms

​

• fatigue

​

• stomach/bowel symptoms

​

• sensory disturbance such as numbness or tingling.

We will have bases in both Gateshead and Newcastle and will be taking referrals from GP practices later in the year.
